The OSI Insurance Fraud & law Enforcement Division is a unique department that combines the criminal investigative powers of a law enforcement organization with the protective role of a regulatory agency. As a fully accredited law enforcement agency of the state of New Mexico, OSI agents have full authority to investigate, arrest, and prosecute criminals who commit insurance fraud. While that might sound like an unusual combination, it is precisely this dual capability that makes OSI effective in its core mission: ensuring New Mexicans have access to reliable insurance products while safeguarding them from fraud and unfair practices.

When to report insurance fraud

If you believe a person in New Mexico is trying to cheat or commit fraud against an insurer or agent, you should report insurance fraud to our office. Common reasons to file an insurance fraud report include: 

• Falsely reporting a stolen vehicle or property  
• Filing claims with multiple companies, sometimes known as double-dipping 
• Medical insurance fraud including billing for services not rendered
