The Producer Licensing Bureau oversees the issuance of new and renewal licenses for both resident and non-resident producers, adjusters and business entities. This Bureau also assists New Mexico Continuing Education Providers in establishing informative and accurate education courses for New Mexico licensees.

Need to update license with a new phone number, address or email? 

“Reinstatement” of an “Inactive” or Surrendered license is the same process of an “New” license application, which can be done online at www.nipr.com.

Office of Superintendent of Insurance has contracted with PSI to conduct its examination program. PSI provides in person and remote testing. Information on each examination along with how to schedule can be found on the “Candidate Bulletin”. 

PSI Test Instructions 

Once you have passed your examination you will need to allow at least 48 hours for the results to be submitted to NIPR before trying to submit an online application. If you are not able to submit your application after the allocated time has passed, please contact PSI customer service. 

Possible Reimbursement for Veterans 

Qualifying veterans may be eligible for reimbursement of the cost of the exam from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The reimbursement form (VA form 22-0803) and additional information about Licensing and Certification Testing can be found on the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs website. New Mexico requires resident applicants to submit their fingerprints electronically for a background check. These background checks are run through both NM Dept of Public Safety as well as a national FBI background. Non-resident applicants do not have any fingerprint requirements, unless they have named NM the Designated Home State (DHS).

We do not issue licenses until we receive the results of the background check, pursuant to Article 59A-11-2 (E).

New Mexico Department of Public Safety (DPS) has partnered with IDEMIA to provide IdentoGo fingerprint services. All applicants must register prior to being fingerprinted. All registration information can be found in the “individual Licensing Instructions” document below.

Business Entity Licensing  

All resident and non-resident applicants can apply, renew, reinstate and add a line of authority online at www.NIPR.com.  

Business Entity licenses require an affiliation to be filed with the state after the online application has been submitted.  

  • At least one (1) Designated Responsible Licensed Producer (DRLP) must be provided on the application and have an active resident or non-resident license in New Mexico. Pursuant to NMSA 59A-12-15 (A)(2) the business entity has designated a licensed insurance producer responsible for the business entity’s compliance with the insurance laws of this state 
  • DRLP’s are required to cumulatively cover the lines of authority (LOAs) on the business application. 
  • Address changes to Business Entity Licenses can be completed online through SBS for Organizations or submitted directly to us via email to Agents.Licensing@osi.nm.gov
